SALEM, Va.  Methodist's Saturday appearance at the Third Annual Finn Pincus Invitational followed Friday's outstanding results as the Monarch men's and women's indoor track & field teams recorded a first-place individual finish and many season-best performances on the 200-meter Cregger Center oval.

THE ESSENTIALS
Event: 2019 Finn Pincus Invitational
Facility: 200-meter indoor oval, Cregger Center
Location: Roanoke College; Salem, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sprinters got the day rolling for Methodist as Jimlyn Laurent posted a season-best time of 8.10 seconds in the preliminary heats of the women's 60-meter dash. Her time qualified her for the semifinal round in which she recorded a time of 8.20 seconds, but missed out on advancing into the event final.
  • Dennis Wright raced down the track in the men's 60 prelims, finishing in a season-best 7.28, but failing to qualify for the semis.
  • Distance runners took to the track after the sprinters, with a Monarch placing 13th in both the men's and women's miles. Makayla Lawler -- Friday's 5,000-meter run winner -- clocked a season best 5 minutes, 33.35 seconds in the women's heats, while Stephen Dukes placed 13th in the men's heats with a season-best time of 4:38.16.
  • Methodist picked up another event victory in the following event, the 400-meter dash. Erran Greene's winning time of 49.48 seconds threatened the school record (49.30) in the men's 400. In the women's heats, Chakalyn Patterson bettered last week's season best with another on Saturday, placing 20th with a new personal-record time of 1:08.21.
  • Dukes doubled up on Saturday, following his earlier performance with another personal best, placing seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.40.
  • Inside and around the oval, Methodist's field athletes competed in their specialties. Among the highlights for Methodist were Austin Boyles' season-best toss of 11.57 meters (37 feet, 11.5 inches) in the men's shot put event, and Kimeesha Whitlock's 11th-place leap of 9.98 meters (32-9) in the women's triple jump.
