Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Early morning action on Day 2 of the Methodist University Fall Invite rolled through early matches, but a nearly two-hour rain delay held up the proceedings until the skies let up from their diversionary storm.
Once play resumed, host Methodist and visiting teams from Averett University, Barton College, Guilford College and the University of Mount Olive took back to the courts to finish off seven flights of singles, which had all completed their opening rounds by the end of Friday's opening session.
The lone singles champion for Methodist was
Kyle Klinek, who defeated teammate
Alex Lycan, 8-3 in the championship match of Flight 7.
In that same flight,
Samir Tewari earned a win in the seventh-place match.
Klinek had teamed up with
Spencer Kieft before the rain to capture the Flight 4 doubles championship.
OTHER NOTABLE ACTION
- Tyler Kane won the fifth-place match in Flight 3
- Both Lucas Dunlop and Henry Blanco dropped their semifinal matches in Flight 4
- Quinn McNamara downed teammate E.J. Stolmeijer, 8-5, in the Flight 5 fifth-place match
- Luke Laney won his fifth-place match in Flight 6, while Harrison Bitzberger would fall in that flight's seventh-place match
- In Flight 1, Coleman Baker was defeated, 8-2, in the fifth-place match, and Trent Harner would be defeated, 8-4, in the seventh-place match
- In Flight 3 of the doubles, Kane and Bradon Ly would win their semifinal match before dropping a narrow 8-6 decision in the flight's championship match
- Joshua Deutsch and Bitzberger were also in Flight 3, falling out of the winner's bracket with a semifinal loss, but rebounding with an 8-4 win in the third-place match
- Also falling in the semis but winning a Flight 2 third-place match were AJ Rogers and Stolmeijer
- Baker and Harner paired up for a fifth-place win in the Flight 1 bracket

The two-day Invite ends the fall season of competition for the Monarchs, who resume play in 2020 with a visit to Elon University on February 15.
