THE ESSENTIALS
Event: Vince Brown Invitational
Facility: Freeman Center (non-banked, 6-lane)
Location: Christopher Newport University; Newport News, Va.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The heartbreak of the day for Methodist likely came in the women's sprints. Jimlyn Laurent set a personal-best time of 8.03 seconds in the 60-meter dash qualifying heats, advancing into the semifinals midway through the meet. In those semis she posted a time of 8.05 for ninth place, one spot out of advancing into the event final. That eighth-place time was an 8.04.
- Kimeesha Whitlock was 16th-fastest in the qualifying heats with a time of 8.28, and she improved her time in the semis to an 8.26 while finishing 14th overall.
- The sprints were also a hot spot for the men's side as Jeremy Prichard registered the fifth-fastest time, 8.66 seconds, in the 60-meter hurdle qualifying semis, then ripped down the track to a new collegiate-best 8.52, which moved him up a spot into fourth overall.
- Greene was the first Monarch to hit the tape first in an event Sunday, taking the 400m dash with a time of 50.44. Greene and runner-up Skander Ballard (50.61) of William & Mary were the only two runners to break 51 seconds in the event.
- Halfway between those two distances was the 200, in which Whitlock posted a new best time of 27.41 seconds while finishing 11th overall.
- Lawler first stepped onto the oval early in Sunday's event schedule for the women's mile, placing sixth with a collegiate-best time of 5 minutes, 23.60 seconds.
- Late in the event schedule she toed the starting line again, this time in the women's 3,000m run. First on the line, first at the finish as the sophomore raced to a four-second victory over runner-up Monica Lannen from CNU, posting a winning time of 10:49.12.
- Stephen Dukes also joined the group setting collegiate-best times from the Methodist squad, clocking a time of 4:37.53 in the men's mile.
