ROANOKE, Va. Methodist's indoor track & field season overlapped its outdoor season on Saturday as a quartet of athletes traveled to Roanoke College's Cregger Center for the Maroons NCAA Final Qualifier meet, while teammates opened the outdoor season at the Savannah State Eyeopener meet.
The Last Chance meet presents the opportunity to improve upon times for those seeking cuts for the NCAA indoor track & field championship meet on March 8-9 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Prichard posted a season-best time in the 400-meter dash, 49.45 seconds, to finish first at the meet, followed by
Erran Greene (51.42) in second place.
Prichard just missed a new personal record (PR) in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish in third place with a time of 8.56 seconds, only 4/100ths of a second behind his fastest clocking.
Kimeesha Whitlock raced to a second-place finish in the women's 60-meter dash, posting a time, 8.27, that was just 1/100th off her career best.
Whitlock also participated in the women's long jump, touching down with a second-place distance of 4.93 meters (16 feet, 2.25 inches).
Olivia Mague's 10.53-seconds time in the women's 60m hurdles fell just shy of her career best (10.15).
In Savannah,
DJ Twitty registered a PR in the men's shot put, finishing in sixth place with a best toss of 12.45m (40–10.25).
Stephen Dukes set a new PR in the men's 800-meter run, posting a fifth-place time of 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds to beat his previous best of 2:00.88.
In the women's sprints,
Jimlyn Laurent set a PR in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing her preliminary heat in a time of 12.67 seconds. Laurent was agonizingly close to moving on to the finals, tying with a runner, Kiara Belton from Claflin University, from another heat for the eighth-place spot.
The officials pushed the results out to the 1000th-of-a-second to break the tie and Belton earned eighth place, 12.663 to Laurent's 12.665.
