GREENSBORO, N.C. In the final tune-up before the conference championship meet, a portion of Methodist's men's and women's track athletes attended the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Prior to the tapering of workloads the Monarchs were still able to post a number of positive results as the team gears up for the USA South Athletic Conference Meet on Thursday and Friday, April 18-19.
Friday evening at N.C. A&T it was
Stephen Dukes who led the charge for Methodist, producing a personal-record heave in the men's javelin of 39.22 meters (128 feet-8 inches), which placed ninth overall at the Invitational. Dukes also posted a time of 2 minutes, 3.58 seconds in the men's 800-meter run.
Alexis Harris tied her career best in the women's long jump, posting a best leap of 5.05m (16-7).
Jimlyn Laurent just missed a career best in the women's 100m dash, flashing down the straightaway Friday in 12.58 seconds. Her best of 12.52 still ranks as the No. 1 time in the event on the conference's 2019 performance list.
Also posting a season best Friday was
Lindsey Pritchard, who finished the women's 800 in 2:37.92.
On Saturday:
- Connor Ayers was just off his best time in the men's 1,500m with a time of 4:21.93
- Jeremy Prichard recorded a season best in the men's 400mhurdles, finishing sixth of 27 racers with a time of 53.28 seconds. His previous best this spring ranked fifth in the league, but his Saturday result could end the weekend as the third-fastest on the USA South performance list
The entire Methodist men's and women's contingent will travel to Berea, Kentucky, to compete in the conference meet at Berea College.
