MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. Giving it their all for one last chance, a Methodist quartet each registered one more attempt Sunday in their events at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier to improve upon a season's-worth of effort in hopes of gaining entry into the NCAA 2019 Division III outdoor track and field championship later in May.
Senior
Jimlyn Laurent has posted career-best times in the women's 100-meter dash several times during the outdoor schedule. On Saturday she registered a time of 12.47 seconds in the preliminary heats to finish in 24th place and just 6/100ths of a second off her career best (12.41).
Erran Greene had posted a season best in the men's 400m dash Saturday in the opening day of Mount Olive's last-chance weekend, but on Sunday was a half second away from that clocking with an eighth-place of 48.54 seconds. His Saturday results, 48.13, ranks 15th nationally.
Hitting a new personal best Sunday was
Jeremy Prichard in the men's 400 hurdles. His sixth-place time of 52.36 is a season best, and just 1/100th off his career best, and betters his time from Saturday (52.40). Prichard is ranked third nationally in the 400 hurdles, and 26th in the 110 high hurdles event.
Stephen Dukes raced twice around the oval at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sport Complex, finishing 10th in the men's 800m run with a time of 2 minutes, 7.16 seconds.
The Mount Olive First Chance Qualifier and Final Qualifier on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, will be the last attempts by Monarch athletes as they now await the release on May 18 of the final invitation list to nationals in Geneva, Ohio, on May 23-25.
