GENEVA, Ohio  Erran Greene finished 13th Friday afternoon in the preliminary heats of the men's 400-meter dash at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Methodist University senior posted a time of 48.54 seconds around the SPIRE Institute Stadium's oval, missing out on advancing into Saturday's championship heat of the event by 31/100ths of a second.

Seeded with the 16th-fastest time, Greene was in Lane 3 of Heat 2 Friday, and came around the final turn having made up a majority of the stagger and vying for second in the heat with Colfay Pointer of University of Dubuque (Iowa) and Liam Fost of Emory (Ga.) University. Pointer (48.16) ended up second in the heat and qualified for the championship final, while Fost (48.28) passed Greene at the finish to take third, but missed out on advancing to Saturday by 5/100ths of a second.

Bethel (Minn.) University's Carl Klamm (47.70) won the heat and will enter the championship heat with the second-fastest prelims time.

Greene competed in the 400 at both the 2019 indoor and outdoor championship meets. He finished ninth at the indoor meet -- where only the top eight advance from prelims to the final -- to go along with Friday's 13th-place finish at the outdoor meet.

In the 2018 outdoor championship, Greene finished seventh, with a time of 47.51, to earn All-American honors.
