Jordan Theron's time at the Division III men's singles Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup ended in the semifinal round Friday morning.
Qualifiers for the ITA Cup, formerly known as the Small College Nationals, are comprised of the nine singles and doubles fall regional champions, as well as the championship finalists in the Central, Midwest, Northeast, New England, South, Southeast and West regionals.
For his match Friday, Theron faced off against third-seeded Chase Cohen of Williams (Mass.) College, with the winner advancing to the championship final.
The opening set was dominated by Theron, who rolled to a 6-1 set victory. Cohen turned the momentum in the second set, in a narrow 7-5 win, to even the match, then maintained his edge and took the match with a 6-2 third-set victory.
Theron finishes the ITA Cup in third place, and Cohen advances into the championship match against Stan Morris from Middlebury (Vt.) College.
This concludes the fall season of competition for the Theron and the Monarch program, which resumes play in 2022 with a visit to Piedmont College on February 19.
