Monarch Begins their 2021-22 Indoor Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. The 2012-22 track and field indoor season begins at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open, for their only indoor event for the 2021 season, on Sunday.

Event: CNU Holiday Open
Location: Vince Brown Track, Freedom Center; Newport News, Va.

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Drew Topoly won the men's mile with a time of 4 minute and 26.64 seconds. This was less than three seconds quicker than the next fastest runner.
  • The men's 400 meter race came down to the wire with Richard Staley pulling it out in the end. After Nazaire Spencer of Salisbury University was leading for majority of the race, Staley made a late push at the end to take finals by .01 seconds to win the 400 race.
  • Also competing in the final rounds of their respective event was freshman Malcolm Knight, in the men's long jump competition. During the event he made a 6.17 meter jump for his best finish in the event for a ninth place finish.
NEXT UP
This completes the only indoor event for the 2021 season. Indoor track and field do not compete again until January 20 of 2022, when the team travels to Southern Virginia University for the Knight Invite.
