Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Success was in the air at the 2021 Marlins Invite as Methodist men's tennis piled up 38 wins in the two-day event of singles and doubles action at Virginia Wesleyan University's Everett Tennis Center.
Not actually a complete round-robin format, but players drew anywhere from four to six singles matches on, mostly, one specific court, and doubles tandems earned two or three matches during the event.
Methodist's
Jordan Theron was unbeaten in four singles matches, as was also
Luke Laney.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two of Theron's match victories were by 8-6 scores, while a third was by an 8-2 count, and the forth was an 8-0 shutout.
- Laney surrendered no more than three games in his four wins.
- Alex Lycan posted a 3-0 record at the Invitational, winning by scores of 8-0, 8-3 and 8-3.
- Other Monarchs who each won three matches were Henry Murray (3-1), Quinn McNamara (3-2), AJ Rogers (3-1) and Harrison Bitzberger (3-1).
- Murray and Laney teamed up to go 2-0 in doubles place, while Rogers and E.J. Stolmeijer were 3-0.
- Theron and Quinn were 2-1, while Trey Hardersen and Lycan, and Bitzberger and Spencer Kieft were each 1-1.
UP NEXT
A few of the Monarchs will travel to Rome, Georgia, where they will participate in the ITA South Regional Fall Championship, which runs September 24-26 and is hosted by Berry College.
