LEXINGTON, Va. Methodist men's and women's track and field competed Saturday in the last day of the Virginia Military Institute Winter Relays to finish out the team's second indoor meet this season.
The highlight of the day was two new school records set by
Drew Topoly, in the men's 1-mile and 3000 meter races. Topoly's 1-mile race time of four minutes and 23.06 seconds broke the previous MU record set in 2007 by Husein Nasiro-Sigo with a time of 4:25.30. Nasiro-Sigo also set the 3000 meter record in 2007, with a time of 8:47.94, before Topoly beat that by 9.2 seconds with a 8:38.74 time.

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
- Topoly placed 11th in the men's mile, only .02 seconds from earning a spot in the top 10. He then placed second in the men's 3000m and seventh in the men's 5000m with a time of 15:21.33.
- Richard Staley finished strong in the men's 500m race finals, placing third by only .06 seconds behind VMI's Richard Edwards.
- Also competing in the final rounds of their respective event was Courtney Drumm, in the women's 1000m. Drumm finished with a 3:31.17 time and came in 21st place.

Methodist will travel to Virginia Beach, Virginia for the Richard Drake Invitational, a single-day meet on Sunday, February 5.
