WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. At the conclusion of the Division III Atlantic Independent Indoor Championships, Methodist men's team finished in third place while the women came placed ninth, on Monday, at the JDL Fast Track Facility.
Part of the reason for the men's third overall place was because of two Monarchs winning their respective event.
Carl Douglas threw a new personal record in the men's shot put, with a distance of 12.78 meters, and
Drew Topoly completing the 3,000 meter race in eight minutes and 45.06 seconds.

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
- The day got off in the right direction with both the men's & women's distance medley teams coming in third place, respectively with times of 11:55.57 & 14:34.37.
- Heading back to men's shot put, it was not just Douglas who performed well. Finishing behind in second was teammate E'Manuel Herbert with his own personal best of 12.19m.
- In another event that featured three Methodist athletes make the top ten was in the men's long jump. Aaron Nash did the best of the trio by coming in second with his best jump of 6.70m. Just two spots back was Isaiah Cuthrell following a jump of 6.29m and coming in seventh overall was Malcolm Knight, with a 6.18m leap.
- Knight would also compete in the men's triple jump and claim second overall with best result being 13.57m. Cuthrell placed in the top five (5th) later on in the day during the men's high jump with a 1.78m vertical.
- Making her season debut with the team was Tatyana Jordan, who had an excellent day in the women's long jump by coming in second place with her best jump of 5m. She also competed in the women's 60m dash and qualified for the finals after finishing fourth in her prelim heat.
- Placing in third overall in the men's weight throw was Nick Wiggins with a toss of 11.77m.
- The women's 5,000m race saw Caroline Stubblefield placing fourth after a time of 21:19.19.
- Doing well in both the men's 200 & 400m races was Richard Staley. Staley ran the 200 in 23.37 seconds than finished with a time of 51.88 seconds in the 400, for second and third places respectively.
NEXT UP
- Methodist, as a team, is done with the indoor portion of their season as they transition to there outdoor with the first meet coming next weekend when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., to part take in the Seahawk Invitational.
- Individually, Topoly will continue his indoor season by heading up north to Medford, Massachusetts to compete in the Tufts National Qualifying Meet, hosted by Tufts University.
