BESSEMER, Ala. Jillian Drinkard sits tied for first place after the opening round of the Birmingham-Southern College Southern Shootout, posting a 4-under-par 68 Monday at the 5,603-yard, par 72 layout at Bent Brook Golf Course.
4th-ranked (WGCA) Methodist rests in first place on the team leaderboard after the first of two rounds. The team registered 4-over-par 292, seven strokes ahead of No. 2 ranked (WGCA) Emory University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Next behind Drinkard was Emily Gresham (33-40-73, +1) who was one of two Monarchs to score an eagle on hole five. She finished the day just shy of top three by two strokes to land a fourth-place tie with Bree Wilson of Rhodes College.
- Ingrid Steingrimsen (37-37-74, +2) also scored an eagle on hole five for the Monarchs, while finishing the day 2-over par 74 for a three-way sixth-place tie.
- Williams (41-36-77, +5) was steady on the day, rolling in the most par putts, 12, while closing out the back nine with an even par to finish tied for 19th.
- Natalie Brosig (39-41-80, +8) only tallied one birdie for the day, to go along with eight pars. She sits tied for 33rd after round one and will look move up in the leaderboards in round two.
- A sixth Monarch, Marybeth Gainer is participating as an individual and finished the afternoon tied for 11th place after her 4-over round of 76 (40-36). Along with Gresham and Steingrimsen, she shot an eagle during the round of 18 but on hole 18 of the course.
