BESSEMER, ALA. Methodist women's golf had a near scare but still came up with the tournament win on Tuesday at the Microjuvenate Panthers Classic. The Monarchs shot a round two score of 295 (+7) for a total score of 587 (+11), just three strokes ahead of second place Rhodes (Tenn.) College.
Winning the medalist honors was Methodist own
Jillian Drinkard (68-70—138), who beat out Ellen Dong (68-73—141, -6) of Emory (Ga.) University. The two were tied at the conclusion of round one but Drinkard finished three strokes better than Dong to cap the individual victory.

FINAL ROUND
- Drinkard was one over at the turn, with two bogeys and a birdie, before converting three birdies on her back nine to go two under 70 for the day, and six under 138 for the event.
- Finishing round two with a card of 73 (+1) was Ingrid Steingrimsen, who competes her two days with a total of 147 (+3). She came in sixth overall after making four bogeys to three birdies through 18 holes on her second trip of the course.
- Coming in a tie for seventh place, with a total of four over 148, we have Emily Gresham (73-75—148, +4). A little rocky to start as she hit four bogeys on her first six holes but afterwards she would figure out her swing by parring 11 of the next 12 holes and birdieing once. This gave her a round score of three over 75.
- Natalie Brosig (80-77—157, +13) shot a 77 (+5) on the course this afternoon, which put her in a tie for 25th overall with a total of 13 over 157. During her first nine holes, she bogeyed hole Nos. 1 & 6 for two over heading into the back nine. She would birdie No. 10 before double bogeying Nos. 15 & 17 to get her round total.
- Having a not so great day was Maggie Williams (77-82—159, +15) after posting a score of 82 (+10). Her front nine read five bogeys and two birdies, while the back nine had five bogeys and a double bogey. Her grand total came out to be a 159 (+15), which put her in a tie for 30th place.
- The last Methodist golfer to compete in the tournament was Marybeth Gainer (76-79—155, +11), as an individual. She came in a tie for 22nd overall with a total mark of 11 over 155. Her second-round card saw a double bogey, four bogeys, and a birdie on the first nine before only hitting two bogeys on the last nine for a 79 (+7) at the end of the round.
