BEREA, Ky. Following day one of the two-day USA South Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championship at Berea College, the women sit in seventh place overall while the men sit tied for second place with Piedmont University, capturing one individual event title.
Nick Wiggins won the men's discus throw, throwing a distance of 39.33 meters, out throwing the second place contestant by three meters.
Aaron Nash competed in both the long jump and high jump events, finishing just shy of first place in the long jump to land a distance of 6.75m. After the long jump, Nash went on to the high jump where he placed third after jumping 1.87m. Earlier in the day Nash competed in some running events as he did the best in the men's 200m dash to earn ninth place with a time of 22.78 seconds.
Along with Nash,
Tatyana Jordan competed in the women's long jump and also landed a second place finish after jumping 5.08m. Jordan competed in the women's 100m dash earlier in the day and placed sixth overall with a time of 13.12 seconds.
Three Monarchs finished back-to-back in the men's 110m hurdles with Nash (17.04 seconds) coming in at fourth and
Cameron Schwartz (17.83) and
Keyshaun Pete (18.25) behind him in fifth and sixth. Later in the men's 400m hurdles,
Tamir Simons placed in the top 10 after hurdling a time of one minute and 1.18 seconds.
Austin Ezzell finished in the top 10 for the 400m run, recording a time of 51.97 seconds while
Madison Pompey placed 12th in the women's 400m run, marking a time of 1:04.48.
For distance,
Courtney Drumm participated in the women's 10000m run and registered a time of 45:54.13. Coming in two places behind Drumm was
Caroline Stubblefield who ran for a time of 47:59.19. Right after the women finished,
Drew Topoly competed in the men's 10000m run, placing second overall, but barely by less than a minute as he recorded a time of 32:45.34.
Thursday's final session will take place all-day beginning with field events at 11 a.m.
