BEREA, Ky. Concluding the two-day USA South Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championship at Berea College, the Monarch men secured a third-place finish overall while the women finished in tenth, capturing one first place finish in the men's 4x100 meter relay event.
Thursday recorded the final results for all events, as the day opened with the field events, followed by the events on the track.
Methodist had one second place finish and two third place finishes in the field events, with the second-place finish being from Carl Douglas Jr. in the men's shot put and the third-place finishes from Aaron Nash in the men's triple jump and Nick Wiggins in the men's hammer throw.
Douglas has a solid performance for the day after throwing 12.98m in the men's shot put, along with E'Manuel Herbert falling in two places behind for fourth place. The two together combined for 13 points for the team.
Nash landed third place after jumping a distance of 12.90m, followed by fellow teammates, Keyshaun Pete and Isaiah Cuthrell in fourth and sixth place with distances of 12.70m and 12.32m respectively. The combination of Nash, Pete and Cuthrell gave the Monarchs 13 points towards the team's score. In the hammer throw, Wiggins threw for a distance of 33.57m.
In the women's field events, Lusiana Mailakeba had the best day in the women's shot-put throw and finished in 10th place overall after launching the shot put 9.94m.
As the day moved on to the track events, the men's 4x100m relay team ran away with the lone first place finish after recording a time of 42.88 seconds. The team consisted of AJ Matthews, Jalen Rushin, Deonte Robinson, and Nash. The team was .34 of a second from breaking the meet's record.
Drew Topoly posed another solid day on the track, competing in both the men's 1500m and 5000m races. In his first event (1500m) he placed third overall with a time of four minutes 6.40 seconds and later bumped up one spot in his second event of the day (5000m) to finish second overall with a time of 14:52.83.
In the men's 100m and 200m dashes, Nash placed sixth overall with a time of 11.01 while Rushin placed fourth overall with a time of 22.39 seconds, in their respective events.
Austin Ezzell, Will Gray and Madison Pompey competed in the 800m run, as Ezzell came in at sixth overall for the men's, just .11 behind fifth place after running a time of 1:59.96. Gray came in a few places after with a thirteenth-place finish in the men's after registering a time of 2:06.34. In the women's Pompey placed just shy of top 10 to land eleventh-place after running the two laps in 2:35.44.
Cameron Schwartz and Pete both qualified the day before in the men's 110m hurdles prelims and finished back-to-back again for fifth and sixth place in the finals. Schwartz ran for a time of 18.28 seconds while Pete recorded a time of 19.64 seconds.
This concludes Methodist's regular season for outdoor track and field.
