WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. The Methodist track and field team excelled at the DIII Atlantic Indoor Championships on Friday, with the men claiming a second-place finish among six teams and the women coming in third out of seven teams.

TOP PERFORMANCES
- The Monarchs finished 1-2-3 in the men's long jump as Aaron Nash (6.90m), Keyshaun Pete (6.43m) and Isaiah Cuthrell (6.29m) out-leaped the competition. Methodist also finished 2-3-4 in the men's triple jump with Jeremiah Freeman (13.47m), Micah McCorvey (13.12m) and Pete (12.84m) posting top-4 distances.
- Kayla Mitchell ran an anchor leg of 1:01.72 in the women's 4x400m relay, passing two competitors to give Methodist a second-place finish in the final women's event. Following teammates Treazure Rosario Watson, Patti Busch and Erykalyn Neal, Mitchell accepted the baton in fourth place while NC Wesleyan was running in second place. NC Wesleyan fell to fourth, giving the Battling Bishops just four points for the event while the Monarchs earned eight points for finishing second. The four-point swing gave Methodist a .5-point edge over NC Wesleyan in the final team standings.
- Drew Topoly finished first in the men's mile run (4:18).
- Kayla Mitchell won the women's 400m dash (1:00.96) and placed third in the 200m dash (26.76).
- Brandi Gardner won the women's long jump (5.22m) and triple jump (10.37m), placed fourth in the 200m dash (27.26) and ran an 8.03 in the 60m dash.
- Aaron Nash won the men's 60m hurdles (9.10), placed second in the 60m dash (7.04), placed third in the 200m dash (23.04) and placed third in the high jump (1.78m).
- Austin Ezzell won the men's 800m run (1:59.04) and placed third in the 400m dash (52.76).
- Micah McCorvey finished third in the men's 60m hurdles (9.69).
- Alex Topoly placed fourth in the men's 800m run (2:02.28).
- Nick Wiggins placed third in the weight throw (12.23m)
PERSONAL RECORDS
- Courtney Drumm finished fourth in the women's 5k (19:32.18), a PR by 26 seconds.
- Jack Barriger ran a 9:55.88 in the men's 3k, a PR by 21 seconds.
NEXT UP
While most of the Monarchs will begin preparing for outdoor competition, Methodist will send a select few competitors to last-chance meets on March 4 with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
