Matthew Hurley represented the Monarchs at the 2025 ITA Division III South Regional Championship, hosted by Rhodes College.
MAIN SINGLES
Competing as the third overall seed in a field of 64, Hurley showcased his consistency throughout the opening rounds. He cruised through his first two matches in straight sets, defeating Sewanee's Samuel Schroerluck 6–2, 6–3 in the round of 64 and Berry's Jace Goode 6–3, 7–6 (9–7) in the round of 32.
Facing a tougher challenge in the round of 16, Hurley met 14th-seeded Kellen Simmons of Oglethorpe. After taking the first set 6–4, Hurley dropped the second 3–6, but held strong in the deciding super tiebreaker to advance, 1–0 (10–5). He carried that same determination into the quarterfinals against USA South rival Albert Sitwell of North Carolina Wesleyan, the tournament's sixth seed. Despite dropping the opening set 3–6, Hurley battled back to win the second 6–4 before securing another tiebreak victory, 1–0 (10–5).
In the semifinals, Hurley faced Emory's second-seeded Dean Kamenev. Hurley built a 5–2 lead in the opening set before reaggravating a preexisting injury. Despite his efforts to push through, the Monarch standout was forced to concede the match, falling 7–6 (7–2), 6–1.
MAIN DOUBLES
In doubles action, Crokam and Hurley teamed up in the main draw but narrowly dropped their opening match, 8–6, to Berry's Jake Chapman and Aiden Benoualid. The duo responded well in the consolation bracket, picking up two impressive wins to reach the semifinals—first outlasting N.C. Wesleyan's Indrek Raudkivi and Largo Koch 8–7 (7–5), then defeating Emory's Caleb Zimmerman and John Victor Sandru 8–3.
Their run came to an end in the consolation semifinals with an 8–4 loss to Sewanee's Drew Rukavina and Maxim Verellen.
