How It Happened
- The opening set was tight from the start as both teams traded points and momentum swings. Pfeiffer broke a 4–4 tie with a 4-0 run to pull ahead 8–4, but the Monarchs continued to fight back, forcing five ties and a lead change later in the set. However, the Falcons closed on a 5-0 run to take the opener, 25–20.
- Carrying that momentum into the second set, Pfeiffer jumped out to a 7–1 lead. Methodist tried to stay within reach, but a stretch of attack errors and Falcon kills created too much separation. Despite some late rallies from the Monarchs, Pfeiffer claimed the set 25–15 to take a 2-0 match lead.
- Needing a spark to stay alive, Methodist came out energized in the third. Kills from Jamie Holton, Addison Johnson, and Carlyn Tanis helped the Monarchs to an early 8–4 advantage, which later grew to 13–7. Pfeiffer responded quickly, cutting the lead to one at 13–12 before the teams traded points to an 18–18 tie. Holton and Tanis each landed key kills to push Methodist ahead briefly, but Pfeiffer finished the match with seven straight points to seal the 25–20 set and complete the sweep.
By the Numbers
- Pfeiffer edged Methodist in hitting percentage, .161 to .094, despite both teams committing 15 or more attack errors.
