Rankin and McCubbin lead Monarchs at USA South Cross Country Championships

MISENHEIMER, N.C.  Racing at the conference championships on the campus of Pfeiffer University, the Methodist women's cross country team placed fourth out of five scoring teams, while in the men's race, the Monarchs totaled the fifth-best team score.

MONARCH NOTES
  • In the women's 6k, Leilani Rankin ran the best time for Methodist, finishing in 26th with a time of 27:29.7. Next to cross the finish line were Yamile Lopez Dominguez and Savanna Alvarado, who ended the race just four seconds apart in 31st and 32nd with respective times of 28:34.1 and 28:38.9.
  • Rounding out the team scorers for Methodist were Mally King and Abigail Rowe, who came in 36th and 37th. King recorded a time of 29:58.7, while Rowe posted a time of 30:03.5.
  • Kamiya McNeill (30:14.6) was next behind Rowe, while Treazure Rosario Watson (31:56.7) and Imani Kee (38:01.9) were the final Monarchs to finish.
  • Chance McCubbin led the way for Methodist in the men's 8k, claiming 15th with a time of 28:06.3. Unfortunately for the Monarchs, their other usual top finish, Rafael Shilengitha, was unable to finish the race due to injury.
  • Keon Lassiter (32:35.6) and Vondre Nelson (33:47.5) took the second and third spots in the Methodist lineup, finishing 28th and 31st. Rounding out the squad were Xavier Wilborn (39:56.8) and Damian Jefferson (46:45.4).
UP NEXT
Methodist is set to compete at the NCAA Division III South Regional Championship, which will be hosted by Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.
