VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. With the Methodist track and field teams competing for the final time in 2025,
Carland Jones captured first place in the men's high jump on Friday, proving to be one of several Monarchs who claimed a podium finish at the Marlins First Chance Meet hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University.

TOP TRACK PERFORMANCES
- Logan Wade posted the best time in the prelim round of the men's 60-meter dash, clocking a personal-record time of 6.87 seconds. His time of 6.97 in the finals was good enough for fourth place overall. Tydrick Stewart was the next fastest Monarch in the prelims, recording the 10th-best time of 7.02 seconds.
- Treazure Rosario Watson took home a second-place finish out of 15 competitors in the women's 300-meter race with a time of 41.75 seconds. Finishing the same race in third place was Leilani Rankin, who finished with a time of 42.25. The duo also earned a pair of top-10 finishes in the women's 500-meter race.
- Stewart and Wade both collected top-10 finishes in the men's 200-meter race, finishing with times of 22.23 (sixth place) and 22.26 (eighth place) respectively.
- Taking 15th out of 29 runners in the men's 400-meter race, Richard Schieferstein set a new personal record with a time of 52.05 seconds.
- In the men's mine run, Rafael Shilengitha was ninth to cross the finish line, logging a time of 4:51.10.
- Rounding out the day, Methodist's women's 4x400-meter relay team put on a show with a third-place finish out of nine teams, recording a time of 4:15.82. The group consisted of Rosario Watson, Amariah Gibson, and Alexandria Wilborn with Rankin as the anchor.
TOP FIELD PERFORMANCES
- A leap of 6.82 meters earned David Dennis third place out of 29 individuals in the men's long jump as he topped his personal best by .01 meters. In the triple jump, Dennis captured seventh place but was outperformed by teammates Kamren Jenkins (13.49 meters) and Jeremiah Freeman (13.27 meters), who took fifth and sixth respectively.
- In the women's shot put, Carmin Davis claimed eighth place out of 22 throwers with a throw of 10.55 meters. On the men's side, Kaleb Nelson's toss of 11.69 meters was good enough for ninth place out of 24. Nelson also took ninth in the men's weight throw out of 19 individuals, launching a throw of 11.16 meters.
- In the men's high jump, Jones cleared a height of 1.99 meters to claim first place, topping his previous career best of 1.97. Joining him in the top five, J'Quez Jackson (1.83 meters) captured fifth place out of 10 jumpers.
