Monarchs Take Eighth at Falcon Shootout

THOMASVILLE, N.C.  Competing in an event hosted by conference foe Pfeiffer University, the Methodist men's golf 'B' team took eighth place out of 14 teams in the two–day Falcon Shootout, shooting 58 strokes over par as a group.

Top teams: 1 – Pfeiffer (303-290—593; +25), 2 –  Southern Virginia (306-299—605; +37), 3 – Spartanburg Methodist (313-301—614; +46)
Top performers: 1 – Connor Key, Pfeiffer (72-71—143; +1), 2 – Preston Carr, Spartanburg Methodist (75-72—147; +5), 3 – Six individuals (+6)

THE 'ROUND' UP
  • Peter Malia had the best first round for Methodist, sinking three birdies on his way to a +5. His day–two performance of seven–over par put him at 17th on the player leaderboard with a tournament score of +12.
  • Davis Linhardt began the event by shooting eight strokes over par on Monday. He showed improvement on Tuesday, recording a pair of birdies with shooting five strokes over par. He finished just behind Malia at +13.
  • Ben Fox also played better in the second round. He followed up his first–round performance of +11 with a +6 on Tuesday, putting him at 17 strokes over par for the tournament.
  • Colson Morley's +19 on Monday didn't count towards the team score, but his +7 in the second round did. He birdied twice and dropped in the team's only eagle of the tournament, finishing Hole 10 (a Par 5) in three strokes.
  • Trey Smith finished each round at nine strokes over par. In round two, he played well on the back nine, recording par on seven holes with a birdie also.
  • Thomas Young competed as an individual, shooting seven strokes over par in the opening round and eight strokes over in the second round. He totaled one birdie each round.
UP NEXT
The Methodist 'B' team has no more scheduled events this semester, while the varsity squad next competes at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational from Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 23.
