A Program Record Six Monarchs Were Named to the All-Conference Teams

ROME, Ga.  The USA South Athletic Conference announced its 2025 All-Conference awards for men's lacrosse on Thursday. A program-record six Methodist student-athletes were named to the lists, including Jay Legg, who was recognized as the league's Rookie of the Year. Additionally, the USA South acknowledged an All-Sportsmanship Team, with senior Hudson James representing the Monarchs.

Legg, a freshman from Holly Springs, North Carolina, is the first Monarch in program history to win USA South ROY honors. He had an impactful first season at Methodist, leading the team in goals and points, with 40 and 11, respectively, while his 40 goals during the regular season also topped all rookies in the conference. He also finished with 37 ground balls and five caused turnovers. For his efforts this season, Legg earned Second Team All-Conference accolades at attack and USA South Rookie of the Week three times.
 
Jake Bandler, a senior, made First Team All-Conference as a long-stick midfielder for two consecutive seasons. The Warrenton, Virginia, native is having a career year, with 53 ground balls, 30 caused turnovers, and seven goals, all of which are new personal bests. His 30 caused turnovers are also the third-most recorded in the conference this season.

For the second time in his collegiate career, senior Ryan Kavounis from Warrenton, Virginia, was selected as a First Team All-Conference midfielder, building on his Second Team distinction from a year ago. He was the Monarch's fourth-leading scorer with 23 goals and is tied for third on the team in assists, with 11. His 25 ground balls this season match a career-high, while his six caused turnovers represent a new career best.
 
Graham Clausen, from Summerfield, North Carolina, garnered his first postseason accolade, a spot on the Second Team at the faceoff position. The sophomore won a career-high 181 faceoffs, on 306 attempts, the second-most faceoff victories in the USA South. His 59.2 faceoff percentage ranked fifth among qualifying USA South FO specialists. His team-leading 117 ground balls also rank second in the league. Other contributing stats he registered were goals (8), assists (2), and caused turnovers (2).
 
Another Methodist player to make an immediate impact in his first season was senior transfer Calvin Flippin, who was named a Second Team All-Conference defender, the first postseason honor in his collegiate career. Hailing from Leonardtown, Maryland, Flippin appeared in all 16 games, with 12 starts for the Monarchs. He totaled 29 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, which ranked seventh and fourth among his teammates. He also tallied two assists this season.
 
Joining Flippin as a second-team defender is sophomore Daniel Wright, who collected his first All-Conference award. The Pasadena, Maryland, product started in all 15 games he appeared in and recorded 31 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
