Monarchs Sit Tied for Sixth After Day One at Gate City Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C.  The top-ranked Methodist men's golf team, the reigning NCAA national champions, opened its 2025-26 season on Monday at the Gate City Invitational, featuring a field that includes 13 of the nation's top 25 programs. After a slow start in the morning, the Monarchs rebounded in round two and sit tied for sixth at four-over-par 580 heading into the final round.

OPENING ROUNDS
  • Jonny Lewis paced the Monarchs with a two-round score of 142 (-2), putting him in a tie for 11th. The senior posted an even-par 72 with two birdies in the opening round before improving in round two with a 70 (-2) that featured six birdies.
  • Senior Beau Brewer sits just behind at even-par 144 (T-16). After an opening 74 (+2), Brewer bounced back in the afternoon with a 70 (-2), carding four birdies.
  • Freshman Jack Haeflinger impressed in his collegiate debut, recording the team's best opening round with a 71 (-1) that included five birdies. He added three more in round two, finishing with a 75 (+3) for a two-round total of 146 (+2), tied for 27th.
  • Tied for 38th place, senior Haden Ruby finished his day with a score of four-over 148. He had an up-and-down first round, leading to a four-over 76 with three birdies. The former Jack Nicklaus Award finalist, though, put that behind him and played an improved second round, shooting even-par 72 with two birdies.
  • Junior Davis Linhardt closed the day at 156 (+12), putting him in 79th. He scored a 77 (+5) in round one, followed by a 79 (+7) in round two, with one birdie in each round.
UP NEXT
The Monarchs will look to climb the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round of the Gate City Invitational.
