Monarchs Finish Ninth at Gate City Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C.  A challenging final round at the Gate City Invitational saw the Methodist men's golf team drop three spots on the leaderboard, finishing the tournament in ninth place out of 18 teams. All five Monarchs recorded scores over par during Tuesday's round.

FINAL ROUND
  • Three Monarchs tied for the team's best score on Tuesday, each coming in at two strokes over par. Senior Jonny Lewis carded a team–high four birdies during the round, including two in his final five holes. He finished with a three–day total of 216 (E).
  • Beau Brewer had a calm day, sitting at +1 through 10 holes with a birdie and two bogeys. Another pair of bogeys and a birdie across his final eight brought his overall score to 218 (+2).
  • Like Brewer, Haden Ruby also made two birdies on the round, but a double bogey added to his +2 round total. He finished the three–day event at 222 (+6).
  • Davis Linhardt ended the day at +10, bringing his three–round score to 238 (+22). Jack Haeflinger had a rough go Tuesday after starting his first collegiate tournament on the right foot Monday. His round three score of +11 brought his tournament total to 229 (+13).

The Monarchs will next compete at the NCAA Division III Preview on Sept. 21–23 in Howey–in–the–Hills, Florida.
