Men’s Soccer Snatches Dominating Senior Day Victory Over Mary Baldwin

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -  The Methodist men's soccer team held Senior Day early this afternoon inside Duggins Soccer Stadium, taking control in the second half of a heavily defensive contest against Mary Baldwin University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
 
Methodist honored nine fantastic student athletes from the Monarchs men's soccer program being Josh Mott, Charles Drew, Sam Wiggins, Carson Stretz, Camden Hancox, Trey Gohr, Garrett Panos, Zachary Way, and Angel Alarcon for all of their hard work and accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a rain filled USA South conference matchup, senior Trey Gohr controlled the tempo that the Fighting Squirrels were bringing offensively, leading to his second clean card of the season, moving him to fourth all time in program history for career total shutouts.
  • The entirety of the first half was full of defense on both sides of the ball, with Methodist attempting ten shots on the Fighting Squirrels with no goals. Preston Bentley would ultimately collect four saves within the stanza to keep Mary Baldwin in the clash against the Monarchs stellar offensive front.
  • Senior Josh Mott would convert the first goal of the contest off a quick pass from freshman Hunter Talley, driving Methodist to go up 1-0 in the 50th minute of action.
  • The Monarchs would not stop there, as a pair of seniors would connect off the Methodist corner kick with Carson Stretz cashing in a goal, assisted off Garrett Panos, propelling the Monarchs over the Flying Squirrels, 2-0 in the 54th minute.
  • After a long weather delay in the closing stages of the clash, senior Garrett Panos would cruise to a goal of his own off the free kick attempt from Alex Ramson in the 80th minute, allowing the Monarchs to roll into a 3-0 shutout victory over Mary Baldwin.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Josh Mott, Garrett Panos, and Cameron Lambert led the Monarchs offensively, each recording two shots, with Mott and Panos logging two shots on goal.
  • Trey Gohr records his fifth outing with zero saves snagged on the season, while marking out with his eighth victory of the season in net for Methodist.
  • Thirteen different held at least one shot for the Monarchs, contributing to Methodist's frequent scoring chances throughout the contest.
