Methodist Men Finish Third, Women Sixth at Conference Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  The Methodist track and field program competed Friday at the 2026 USA South Indoor Track & Field Championship, hosted at the JDL Fast Track. After 16 scoring events, the Monarch men secured a third-place team finish, while the women placed sixth in the six-team field.

TOP TRACK PERFORMANCES
  • Methodist's sprinters delivered standout performances in the men's 60-meter dash. Juniors Logan Wade and Tydrick Stewart, along with freshman Greg Cuthbertson, all advanced to the finals after strong preliminary showings. In the championship heat, Wade clocked a 6.88 — just .01 seconds off his personal best — to claim runner-up honors. Stewart followed closely behind, finishing fourth in a personal-record 6.92.
  • Senior Micah McCorvey also reached the podium in the men's 60-meter hurdles. After qualifying for the finals, he posted a personal-best time of 8.75 seconds to earn third place.
  • In middle-distance action, senior Rafael Shilengitha secured a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.86.
  • The Monarchs capped the day with strong relay performances. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Keon Lassiter, Greg Cuthbertson, Xavier Wilborn, and Rafael Shilengitha finished second in 4:08.73. On the women's side, Rosario Watson, Amariah Gibson, Alexandria Wilborn, and Leilani Rankin combined for a third-place finish in the 4x400.
TOP FIELD PERFORMANCES
  • The men's high jump proved to be a highlight event for Methodist, as junior Carland Jones and senior Jarius Fajardo dominated the competition. Both cleared 1.95 meters, finishing first and second, respectively.
  • Junior David Dennis added another podium performance in the long jump, earning second place with a leap of 6.75 meters.
  • Freshman Kamren Jenkins delivered one of the biggest improvements of the meet in the triple jump. His personal-best mark of 13.87 meters — nearly .20 meters farther than his previous top jump — secured a third-place finish.
  • On the women's side, senior Treazure Rosario Watson claimed third in the triple jump with a best mark of 10.67 meters.
NEXT UP
The USA South Championship concludes Methodist's indoor campaign. The Monarchs now shift their focus to the outdoor season, which begins March 6–7 at the UNCW Invitational.
