Methodist Lacrosse Wins First Game 17-12

Monarchs ahead 13-6 in first half

Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Methodist lacrosse earned their first win of the season with a 17-12 victory over Shenandoah.

The Monarchs (1-5, 1-0) got the first draw control and but had a shot off the post for Shenandoah to gain possession and score the first goal of the game. Methodist came back and tied the game at the other end and went up 3-1. Methodist went ahead 4-3 before going on a 6-0 run to lead 10-3. Both teams finished the half with three goals a piece for the Monarchs to lead 13-6 at the break.

 

Shenandoah (1-3, 0-1) opened up the second half with three straight goals to cut the lead to four. Methodist broke the scoring drought with a free position goal from Amber Jurkovac with 14:54 remaining in the game. Both teams exchanged goals with the Monarchs leading 15-10 with 8:29 to go. Methodist finished with the 17-12 win.

Jasmine Stephens led the Monarchs with seven goals including six in the first half. Jurkovac scored three while Andrea DiStefano andKrystal Poirier each scored two. Abby Harmon, Danielle Minichello, and Diane Doroftei scored a goal a piece in the win.

Goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray made 13 saves for the Monarchs.

Methodist will travel to Greensboro on Tuesday for a 4 pm start.
