FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis moved one step closer to wrapping up its fall season as the second day of the Methodist 2-of-3 Men's Challenge ended on Saturday.
In the consolation bracket, MU's
Seth Grant defeated William Peace's Echavarria, 6-0, 6-1, and
Asa Britt blanked William Peace's Wood, 6-0, 6-0. Grant and Britt then paired up to top Echavarria/Wood, 8-0. The duo will compete in the finals on Sunday morning.
Methodist's
R.J. Clement was bested by Barton's Velasco, 6-1, 6-4, as teammate
Teal Howard edged Barton's Genest, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. Clement and Howard went on to lose to Velasco and Genest, 8-2.
MU's Taylor Buccholz fell to Mount Olive's Wiederspahn, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5, while fellow Monarch
Max Mancini was defeated by Mount Olive's Sousa, 6-0, 6-4. Buccholz and Mancini teamed up to drop their match to the Mount Olive duo, 8-3.
Methodist's
John Dangerfield was bested by Mount Olive's Bub 6-1, 6-2, and
Dillon Sullivan defeated Mount Olive's Roffe, 6-3, 6-2. Dangerfield and Sullivan joined forces and were defeated Bub and Roffe, 8-3.
MU's
Jacob Groce claimed the win in his match against Averett's Terentiev, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7, while teammate
Michael Jones bested Averett's Lora, 6-0, 6-4. The doubles duo of Groce and Jones won against Terentiev and Lora, 8-3. The two Monarchs dropped their next match, as Groce was routed by Young Harris' Frias, 6-0, 6-0, and Jones fell to Young Harris' Quevedo, 6-0, 6-3. As a duo, the two were defeated by Frias and Quevedo, 8-1.
