Box Score WINGATE, N.C. -- Cassie Walter scored three goals and added an assist, but Wingate scored the games final four goals in holding off the Methodist women's lacrosse team, 16-10, on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing by five goals (12-7) midway through the second half, Walter began a late run for MU (0-2) with her third goal of the contest, an unassisted tally, to make it 12-8. Several minutes later, Sareena Coleman scored unassisted to make it 12-9 in favor of Wingate, and M.J. Barton scored off a feed from Walter to inch the Monarchs closer at 12-10 with 8:09 to play.

However, the Bulldogs (1-0) scored four times in the game's final 5:49 as Methodist tried pressing the action late, to earn the win.

After falling behind 8-5 at the half, the Monarchs went down by four goals (9-5) as Allie Holland opened the second period with an unassisted goal. Madison Antor and Coleman answered with back-to-back goals to make it a 9-7 game, but the Bulldogs used a 3-0 spurt to take a 12-7 lead and keep the Monarchs at bay.

In the first half, the Monarchs trimmed a four-goal deficit (6-2) to just a pair of goals at the 9:12 mark courtesy of goals by Antor and Walter roughly one minute apart. The Bulldogs had another answer though, and two more goals doubled their lead to four (8-4) with just under five minutes left in the first half.

In addition to her three goals and an assist, Walter picked up four ground balls. Antor finished with a pair of goals, five ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Coleman had two goals, five draw controls and three ground balls.

For Wingate, Laura Swanson and Allie Holland had three goals apiece, and four other Bulldog players had two goals each. Cyndie DeComo led Wingate with five ground balls and six draw controls.
