Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Methodist men's lacrosse team fell at Christopher Newport, 16-3, on Wednesday evening.

The Captains rode a 4-0 first quarter advantage into an 8-1 lead at the half in knocking off the Monarchs. Joey Rolando opened the scoring for CNU 42 seconds into the contest to make it 1-0. After nearly 12:00 of scoreless play, the Captains scored three times in the final 2:25 of the opening quarter for a 4-0 lead. John Thompson scored at 2:25, and Dave Magdeburger and Randy Foster each scored in the final minute for the 4-0 lead.

Christopher Newport stretched its lead out to 8-0, including tallies by Rolando, John and Parker Thompson and Randy Foster, before MU's
Chris Lombardi scored with a man advantage with 31 seconds left in the first half for the 8-1 score at the break.

CNU accounted for all six goals scored in the third quarter, including four while holding a man advantage to assume a 14-1 lead entering the fourth and final quarter.

For the game, CNU outshot MU, 44-16, and won 17-of-22 faceoffs.
Travis Rice took the loss in goal for MU, stopping 12 shots. For the Captains, Matt Hayden played the first 30:00 and picked up the win. He allowed one goal and did not make a save.

Matt Layden and
Justin Layden accounted for the MU goals, and each Layden brother had three ground balls.
Jacob Fitch had three caused turnovers.

For Christopher Newport, John Thompson had four goals and an assist, and Rolando, Foster and Hunter King all scored twice. Nick Kirschke had seven ground balls and also won 16-of-21 faceoffs.

Methodist is back in action on April 5, when it plays at Huntingdon beginning at 1:00 pm.
