Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College scored seven first-quarter goals, and added eight more in the fourth quarter to run away with an 18-4 win over the Methodist men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon.
Daniel Batong opened the scoring for the Panthers (7-10) with back-to-back goals to give Ferrum a 2-0 lead by the 13:00 mark of the first quarter.
Aaron Ward and
Justin Layden each scored unassisted goals to pull Methodist (3-10) even at 2-2 at the 11:59 mark, but the Panthers closed the period on a 5-0 spurt to take a 7-2 lead after two. Dylan Burdick began the burst with a pair of of unassisted goals.
In the second quarter,
Ben Click scored for MU to pull the Monarchs within four goals at 7-3 at the 14:38 mark. The Panthers answered once again as Marcus Boyer and Kyle Downey each scored to give Ferrum a 9-3 lead at halftime.
The Monarchs' deficit still stood at six goals entering the fourth quarter, but FC sealed the win with eight unanswered goals in the final 15:00.
The Panthers outshot Methodist, 43-29, and forced MU's
Travis Rice into making 13 saves in the cage. Ferrum picked up 38 groundballs to 36 for MU, and MU turned the ball over 24 times to just 14 for the Panthers.
Jaylen Robinson led the Monarchs with five groundballs, and
Justin Layden,
Jordan DeSalvo,
Daniel Richards and
Matt Layden all picked up four. DeSalvo also won 10-of-15 faceoffs.
Andrew Senft led the Panthers with seven points on two goals and five assists. Kyle Downey had three goals five other FC players scored at least two goals. Tyler Muckle had nine groundballs and four caused turnovers, and Boyer had five groundballs. Tony Tallez won 7-of-10 faceoffs.
