Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Huntingdon College scored the first four goals of the second half to break a 5-5 tie at intermission en route to an 18-9 win over the Methodist men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks received two goals apiece from Jacob Works and Brandon Sewell to open the second half and assume a 9-5 lead by the 7:44 mark of the third quarter. In all, Huntingdon (9-5) outscored the Monarchs (3-6) by a 13-4 margin in the second half.

Ben Click opened the scoring at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter with an unassisted goal to give MU a 1-0 lead. Following nearly eight minutes of scoreless play, Sewell tied the game for Huntingdon at the 3:57 mark with an unassisted goal.
Jaylen Robinson gave the Monarchs a 2-1 lead after one quarter when he scored off a feed from
Hunter Mackenzie with just 23 seconds remaining in the opening stanza.
Works evened the game up at 2-2 just under five minutes into the second quarter with an unassisted goal at the 10:03 mark.
Jake Smerka helped Methodist regain a one-goal lead (3-2) off a feed from
Justin Layden at the 6:27 mark. The Hawks answered with a pair of goals, including another tally by Works, to assume a 4-3 lead before MU's
Trevor Dickinson and
Ben Click pushed MU back on top 2:09 before the break.Works added a score off a feed from Sewell 10 seconds later to knot the game up at 5-5 heading to halftime.
Following the Hawks' run to open the third quarter, Smerka and
Matt Layden scored unassisted goals to cut the Monarchs' deficit to two goals (9-7), but the Huntingdon closed the game on a 9-2 spurt to seal the win.
The two teams were dead even in shots at 39 apiece, but Huntingdon's Fabian Gutierrez made 15 saves in 54:18 of play, while MU's
Carl Leibrandt came up with just seven saves in the cage. Huntingdon also picked up 48 ground balls to 33 for MU, and won the faceoff battle, 20-9.
Matt Layden, Robinson, Click, and Smerka all scored two goals to lead MU's offense.
Aaron Ward added a pair of assists.
Justin Layden had five ground balls, and Leibrandt and Robinson each had four.
For Huntingdon, Sewell led the way with nine points on six goals and three assists, and Works added eight goals. Sewell and Brandon Scheele each had 10 ground balls, and Scheele won 15-of-22 faceoffs.
Methodist is back in action on Sunday at Birmingham Southern beginning at 12:00 pm.
