Methodist Men's Lacrosse Falls at Birmingham-Southern, 15-6

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Birmingham-Southern built a 10-2 lead by halftime en route to a 15-6 win over the Methodist men's lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Panthers (7-6) received goals from four different players capped by a Headley VanMeter score off a feed from Evan Lalande at the 4:52 mark of the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead. Methodist's (3-7) Aaron Ward got the Monarchs on the board with an unassisted goal with 2:46 to play in the first quarter that made it 4-1.
 
In the second quarter, LaLande opened things with an unassisted goal 34 seconds into the period, before Jaylen Robinson responded with a goal of his own that made it a 5-2 game in favor of BSC by the 8:18 mark. However, the Panthers reeled off five consecutive goals, including two in the final minute of the period, to take a 10-2 lead into the break.
 
The Panthers outscored MU, 4-1, in the third quarter, including a pair of goals from McHale Schneider to take a 14-3 leading heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Ward tallied twice more and Ben Click added a goal for Methodist for the final score of 15-6.
 
Birmingham-Southern held a 26-17 edge in shots on goal and won 15 faceoffs to 10 for the Monarchs. The Panthers also scooped up 39 ground balls to 30 for MU. Travis Rice started in goal for Methodist and took the loss. He made 11 saves. Conor Perine played the first three quarters in goal for BSC and made nine saves. Hank Harris played the final 15:00 and made two saves.
 
Ward finished with three goals and Click had a goal and an assist. Jacob Fitch paced the Monarchs with six ground balls.
 
Lalande led BSC with seven points on three goals and four assists, and Schneider added four goals and two assists. Thomas Grove had 10 ground balls and won 12-of-15 faceoffs.
 
Methodist will now host Piedmont on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
