FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For the second consecutive year, Max Reber has won the Mason Sykes Cup as announced by the Methodist University Department of Athletics.

The Sykes Cup, named for former Methodist coach Mason Sykes, is awarded annually to the University's top student-athlete. Based on outstanding athletic achievement, and a minimum grade-point average of 2.0, the Methodist coaching staff has chosen an annual winner every year since 1986.

Reber wrapped up a stellar football career in the fall of 2014 and leaves as one of the program's most decorated players.

In leading the Monarchs to a 6-4 record in 2014, Reber finished second in the conference in 2014 with 2,694 passing yards, completing 210-of-345 passes. He led the league with 28 touchdown passes and added 337 yards rushing with three touchdowns en route to a First Team All-USA South selection, his second in as many years. Reber finished his career as MU's all-time leader in passing yards (8,868), pass attempts (1,118), completions (663), passing touchdowns (81) and holds the single-season and single-game record in each category as well.

In all, he was a three-time USA South All-Conference selection and was named All-Region by D3football.com in 2013. Following his junior season, Reber won the USA South Offensive Player of the Year award as well as the Don Scalf Award, which is given annually to the league's most outstanding student-athlete.

The only Methodist football player to ever win the award, he becomes the fifth Methodist student- athlete to win multiple Sykes Cups and the first since women's golfer Susan Martin won three straight from 2008-2010.

The Sykes Cup will be presented at Methodist's Fall Convocation.
