HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist entered the day atop the leaderboard, with Redlands one stroke behind in second, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges five back in third, and CMS -- the 2018 national champions -- fourth, six shots back.
  • CMS caught fire Tuesday with their posting of 295, bettering the next closest team by 14 strokes.
  • The Monarchs held off the Athenas early, but CMS eventually overtook Methodist, Redlands and Pomona (304-309—613, +37), which finished fourth.
  • Kendall Nicholson of Redlands and Emily Lewis of Chapman (Calif.) University teed off in the morning in first and second place, respectively, while Drinkard was in third just two strokes back.
  • While Nicholson slipped back to fourth, and Lewis to seventh, Drinkard was playing steadily across her Tuesday round, finishing 1-over-par on the day to climb to the top of the leaderboard. In the lead approaching her final four holes of the day, Drinkard finished birdie, bogey, birdie and bogey to maintain her grip on the lead ahead of Beckwith.
  • Paige Church (74-80—154, +10) finished the tournament tied for 14th place. Her best stretch in Tuesday's round was a string of pars over Nos. 9-13.
  • Peyton Durham (75-82—157, +13) registered 13 pars in her closing round to finish tied for 22nd place.
  • Two spots back in a three-way tie for 24th was teammate Alexandra Williams (78-80—158, +14). Her front nine on Tuesday proved challenging as she was +8 before the turn, but Williams rolled even-par the rest of the day across the back nine.
  • Climbing four spots to finish in a tie at 28th place was Morgan Bowen (82-79—161, +17). Her day started on No. 16 and through her first nine holes Tuesday she was 1-under, collecting eight par putts and one birdie putt.
