CHARLOTTE, N.C. Methodist's men's and women's cross country teams were back at McAlpine Park Friday for the second time in two weeks, this time racing in the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
Among the largest fields in which the Monarchs will race this season, the Methodist men placed 27th of 33 teams in the Men's Gold 8-Kilometer event.
Drew Topoly cracked the top 100, in a field of 337, for the Monarchs, completing the course in 25 minutes, 12.2 seconds for an 84th-place finish.
Xavier McLamb was next to cross the line for Methodist, placing 158th with a time of 26:09.7.
In nearly equal succession, the next two Monarchs to finish were
Will Gray (27:23.1) in 240th place and
Victor Sobun (28:48.5) in 282nd.
Rounding out the scoring runners for Methodist was
Jackson Barriger, who was 291st in a time of 29:06.3.
The Methodist women saw three runners participate in the Women's Gold 5K.
Caroline Stubblefield (21:10.6) and
Madison Pompey (21:37.8) were separated by only 27 seconds as Stubblefield finished 225th and Pompey 240th.
In her first race this season,
Courtney Drumm (23:01.8) was 266th.
The Monarch men and women will have one more tune-up event -- the October 15 ECU Pirate Cross Country Invitational -- before the USA South Athletic Conference championship meet on Oct. 30 in Rocky Mount, N.C.
