ROME, Ga.  The USA South Athletic Conference announced on Saturday evening the participants in its 2021 USA South Football Championship Game which will pit host Methodist University against Huntingdon College.

Adapting to changes necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the league split the football-playing institutions into East and West Divisions for the season, with teams only playing those within their respective division. The leaders of the two divisions advance to play for the conference championship.

Though crowned a league champion, the winner will not be able to advance into a national tournament as the Division III football championship tournament has been canceled, as have all fall sport national tournaments.

Methodist went unscathed in its shortened spring 2021 schedule, finishing 3-0 in league play and 4-0 overall, winning the East Division.

The West was a bit stickier as both Huntingdon and Brevard College finished 2-1 in conference play. The league's tiebreaker system was unable to untangle the tie -- the process includes NCAA Regional rankings, of which there were none this season -- until the final option, a coin flip.

Huntingdon came out ahead on the flip, earning the right to represent the West Division in the championship game.

By virtue of finishing with a better record than Huntingdon, the Monarchs will host the championship battle, which will take place on April 3 at Monarch Stadium, at a time to be determined.

The USA South Outdoor Spectator Policy will remain in place for the championship game, limiting numbers and excluding spectators of visiting teams. But the game will be available to watch via livestream on the Monarchs' All-Access video channel at mumonarchs.com/watch.
