SAVANNAH, Ga. Methodist women's golf wrapped up the Berry Collegiate Invitational with a team score of 301 (+13) on Tuesday to come in a tie for third place.

The Monarchs found themselves in a tight battle with Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University and Emory (Ga.) University down the stretch. At different points throughout the day each of these teams held the top spot, but only by a one stroke margin. In the end, the Tartans of Carnegie managed to hold onto their top spot for the victory.

ROUND 2 NOTES
  • Having a much better day for the Monarchs was Jillian Drinkard (77-72—149, +5), who leaped from 22nd place to a tie for ninth, with a score of 72 (E). She looked solid at the turn with only a birdie and a bogey on front and would birdie two more times heading onto her last hole where a double bogey would even everything out.
  • Finishing ahead of Drinkard was Maggie Williams (72-76—148, +4) after a four over 76 put her in a tie for sixth. She was in a groove to start off the day by parring the first nine holes she played. During the last nine holes, she would bogey four of them.
  • Coming in a tie for 18th place we had Natalie Brosig, Emily Gresham, and Ingrid Steingrimsen. Brosig (76-76—152, +8) matched her score from yesterday with another four over 76.
  • Gresham (75-77—152, +8) did not start well as double bogeyed followed by back-to-back bogeys on the first three holes. She would seem to right the ship by making par and a birdie on 13 of the last 15 holes but also hit two more bogeys to finish with a 77 (+5).
  • Steingrimsen (73-79—152, +8) had an up and down day on the course on her way to a 79 (+7). She birdied her first hole of the round but then tripled bogey right after it before almost repeating the process when she birdied No. 4 and double bogeyed No. 7. The rest of her card read one birdie, three bogeys, and a double bogey through the remaining 11 holes.
  • Marybeth Gainer (82-81—163, +19) struggles seemed to have continued into the new day as an individual. Her front nine consisted on five bogeys, including four in a row on Nos. 4-7, and a birdie. Even though twice she double bogeyed and bogeyed, she would figure things out with six pars on the final nine.
UP NEXT
Methodist does not hit the course again until March 18 when they play in the three day Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational event.
