Methodist in First Following Day One of USA South Championships

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  The No. 1 ranked Methodist University men's golf team finished up its first round of the 2024 USA South Men's Golf Championships on Monday, April 22. With a one-under 287 score, the Monarchs lead all team while Methodist golfer Cooper Hrabak leads the field after shooting a three-under 69, in his opening round.

OPENING ROUND
  • On the front half, three birdies and a bogey had Hrabak at two-under heading into the turn. Two additional birdies, along with another bogey, on back half brought him to his current score for the event.
  • Caleb Ryan is in second place following a day one score of two-under 70, just one-stroke behind his teammate. Ryan shot well during his first nine holes as he dropped in three birdies. His back nine was not as good as his front, but he still only bogeyed twice and birdied once.
  • Also in the top-five, at T-4th, Chase Walts shot one-over 73 in his first round. He marked on six of his first nine holes, four bogeys and two birdies, to put him at two-over heading into the turn. He played a much cleaner game during his last nine holes as he made eight pars and one birdie.
  • Cameron Cappuzzo sits in ninth place after he scored a three-over 75 on the first day. He began the day bogeying three of his first four holes then during holes 7-9 he dropped a bogey in between two birdies. After making a birdie to start the back half, he doubled bogey before finishing up with an additional bogey and birdie.
  • Rounding out the Monarch squad is Aiden Spampinato, who is in a tie for 16th with a score of eight-over 80. His card saw him make two triple bogeys, four bogeys, and two birdies.

Methodist returns to the course on Tuesday for the second round of the USA South championships, with the first Monarch golfer teeing off at 9:20 AM.
