Methodist Still in First Following Day Two of USA South Championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  Methodist University men's golf, the No. 1 team in the nation, played its second round of the 2024 USA South Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday, April 23. The Monarchs continued to widen their gap between them and the second place team after posting a four-under 284 for the round, which gives Methodist an overall score of five-under 571.

OPENING ROUND
  • After being in second place the day before, Caleb Ryan took over the top spot in the player leaderboards following a day two score of four-under 69, putting his overall total at five-under 139. He chipped in five birdies, while making two bogeys, throughout his time on the course.
  • Cooper Hrabak shot a one-over 73 during his second time out on the course, which gives him a total of two-under 142 for tournament, and slipped down one spot to second place. He began the round by bogeying his first hole of the day but back-to-back birdies on holes 3 & 4 would bring him to one-under. Three bogeys within his next six holes pushed his score to two-over, until he finished his day with a birdie, on hole No. 18.
  • Cameron Cappuzzo, who has a two-day score of even-par 144, was the biggest mover among the Monarchs as he jumped six places to be in third overall, after he carded a three-under 69. He made three birdies to go along with his 15 pars for the round.
  • Still in fourth place, Chase Walts posted a second round score of one-over 73, and a total score of two-over 146. On the front half, he made three pars, three bogeys, and three birdies to keep him at even par heading into the turn. After recording another bogey on hole 11, he eagled the 13th hole, a par five, then birdied hole 15. A triple bogey, a birdie, and a bogey was how he concluded his day.
  • Aiden Spampinato played a much better round, the second, today as he scored a two-over 74. He moves up one spot, 15th place, with a total score of 10-over 154. He still struggled a little through his first nine holes, with four bogeys and one birdie, but looked good on his back nine, with his only mark being a birdie on hole 18.

The final round of the 2024 USA South championship will take place on Wednesday, with the first Methodist golfer teeing off at 9:20 AM.
