Methodist Moves Up into a Tie for Second Before the Final Round of the NCAAs

BOULDER CITY, Nev.  Methodist University, the No. 1 in the nation, played better in the third round, following a second round that knocked the team out of first place, by shooting a four-under 284. The Monarchs have regained some ground and are now in a tie for second, just one stroke behind the leader.

ROUND THREE
  • Individually, Cooper Hrabak is in a three-way tie for third place, with a total score of 210 (-6), after he shot a two-under 70. Back-to-back birdies was how he started the day before a double-bogey and a bogey on his next two holes had him at one-over. Additional birdies on hole Nos. 5, 7, & 13 were his only other marks for the remainder of the round.
  • Carding a two-under 70 as well was Caleb Ryan, which moved him into a tie for sixth with a total score of 211 (-5). He went one-under through his first nine holes as he eagled his second hole of day before making bogey two holes later. On the back nine, he birdied three time while bogeying twice.
  • Chase Walts had a little bit of a rough start with a double bogey & bogey on his first two holes but was able to trim it down to just one-over, via a pair of birdies, on the front half. Three more birdies, a double bogey, and a bogey on the back half led Walts to one-over 73 for the round. This brings his grand total to 213 (-3) and puts him a tie for 14th overall.
  • In a tie for 37th, Aiden Spampinato posted an even par 72 during his third time on the course, making his three-day total 217 (+1). Two bogeys and a birdie through his first nine holes had him at one-over, then following the turn he made birdies on holes 13, 14, & 16 before ending his day with a double bogey on 18.
  • Cameron Cappuzzo shot his best round of the tournament, on day three, with an even par 72, putting his overall tournament score at 226 (+10). Through 18 holes, he made four birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey.
UP NEXT
The final round of the NCAAs will be an exciting one as Methodist and Redlands are both only one-stroke behind Carnegie Mellon, the current first-place holder. The first group of these three teams are scheduled to tee off 9:50 AM (PST).
