Methodist is in Sixth Following Opening Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.  The No. 1-ranked Methodist University men's golf team played its opening round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Friday, and following the first day, the Monarchs are in a tie for sixth place with a score of three-over 291.

ROUND 1
  • Leading for the Monarchs was junior Beau Brewer, who shot a two-under 70, countering two bogeys with four birdies. This put him in a tie for seventh, four strokes behind the leader.
  • In a tie for 16th, senior Aiden Spampinato posted an even-par 72 after making three birdies and bogeys.
  • The number one ranked men's golfer in Division III, Chase Walts, had a decent opening round, with only a couple of blemishes affecting his score. Walts is currently in a tie for 49th with a two-over 74.
  • Seniors Haden Ruby and Caleb Ryan are tied for 61st after scoring a three-over 75. Ruby had three marks on his scorecard, while Ryan utilized three birdies to cancel out a few miscues during his time on the course.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday, March 22, when Round 2 of the Jekyll Island tournament starts at 7:30 a.m.
