PENFIELD, N.Y. With a big hill to climb after the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, the Methodist men's golf team put together the best score out of all 43 teams in the second round, ascending 13 spots on the team leaderboard on Wednesday to move from 19th into sixth place.
Methodist's jump tied for the largest leap up the leaderboard as the team ended with a score of 10 strokes over par for the round. The Monarchs now hold a two–round total of +25, which is just six strokes behind first place.

ROUND TWO
- Haden Ruby was the top Monarch on Wednesday and did so with a grand start, making birdies on his first four holes. He ended the round with a –1 (tied for fifth–best on the day) and moved into 18th place overall (up from T100 on Tuesday) with a two–day total of +4.
- An up–and–down day still made Beau Brewer the second–leading player for Methodist during the second round as he finished two strokes over par. Like Ruby, he totaled four birdies on the round, which for Brewer included one on his final hole of the afternoon.
- Aiden Spampinato was one stroke under par through 11 holes on Wednesday, rattling off a stretch of three birdies within four holes during that span. A double–bogey and three bogeys across his final seven holes brought his round score to +4.
- With two birdies and a total of seven bogeys on the day (including back–to–back bogeys to end the round), Chase Walts finished with a +5. He and Spampinato are now tied on the individual leaderboard, with each sitting at +8 overall.
- A challenging round for Caleb Ryan saw just one birdie as he finished at seven strokes over par.

Round 3 will take place on Thursday, with tee time information yet to be announced. Only the top 18 teams after Wednesday's cut advance to the final two rounds.
