DANVILLE, Va. Seeking its second road win of the season, the Methodist men's lacrosse team faced off against Averett University on Wednesday evening, earning an 18–6 victory after an explosive fourth quarter. The Monarchs outscored the Cougars 9–0 in the final period to run away with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jay Legg traded goals back and forth with Averett's Emmett Wood in the first quarter, with each attackman scoring twice. To start the second, RJ Breeden scored off a feed by Logan Garrett, while Legg tallied another unassisted score. Averett answered with a goal to make the score 4–3, but Methodist punched in three of the next four to carry a 7–4 lead into halftime, with Legg netting the final goal of the half with just over a minute to go in the period.
- Averett's Connor Boyd exchanged goals with J.R. Newman in the first five minutes of the third, then Boyd and Breeden swapped scores inside the final two minutes of the quarter, making the score 9–6 in favor of Methodist entering the final frame.
- The fourth quarter was all Methodist, as the Monarchs piled on nine in a row to swing the match from a tight contest to a blowout. Eight different goal scorers contributed during the run, with Garrett netting a pair of goals.
FAST FACTS
- Legg finished the night with five goals, matching his career best. Next behind him was Breeden with three. Thomas Oakes, Christian Thompson and Patrick Noone all scored the first goal of their collegiate careers. In total, the Monarchs had 11 unique goal scorers on the night.
- Methodist scooped up 30 ground balls compared to just 14 by Averett. Nick Ratnesar alone accounted for 16 as he went 21-for-26 on faceoffs.
- Freshman goalkeeper Cole Rigsbee posted seven saves while conceding six goals in a full 60 minutes of play.
