FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist fans celebrated Senior Day before the game, Parents Day at halftime and a 20-10 win after the game at Monarch Stadium Saturday.

Both offenses had a rough start with Methodist fumbling on the Pride's 12-yard line and Greensboro quarterback Mike Caparaso getting picked off at the Methodist 30-yard line by freshman Mike McMillan.  The Monarchs punted on their next possession and Greensboro took over on their own nine-yard line.  Methodist junior Brian Leary was able to jump on a Pride fumble giving the ball back to the Monarchs on the Greensboro 10-yard line.  Penalties pushed Methodist back to the 21-yard line despite a 10-yard run by freshman Reggie Scales.  Junior quarterback Erik Teague found junior Chris Peoples for nine yards and Teague picked up a couple before sophomore Mario Miralles converted the 26-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead.

The first quarter ended with Greensboro's Calvin Bacon sacked by Methodist freshman Alex Russell at the Greensboro 33-yard line.  The Pride picked up 20-yards on the drive but punted for a touchback.  The Methodist running game came through to help the Monarchs reach the 13-yard line.  On second and nine, Teague found a hole for the touchdown.  Miralles' extra point gave Methodist the 10-0 lead.  Greensboro fumbled their next possession, but the Monarchs could not get the first down and punted back to the Pride.  Greensboro was set to attempt a field goal when a bad snap gave Methodist the ball back on their own 23-yard line.  Teague was intercepted just before halftime, but the Monarchs held on to the 10-0 lead at the break.

Greensboro drove down the field on their first possession of the second half setting up Caleb Shelton for a 21-yard field goal with 9:39 to go in the quarter.  Michael Witherspoon intercepted Teague and ran it back for a touchdown and Shelton tied the game at 10 with the extra point.  Both teams punted on their next possession, but it was junior fullback Jason Layton who made the difference on the next Methodist drive.  Layton ran for 31 yards to reach the Pride's 25-yard line.  Miralles drilled a 42-yard field goal to give the Monarchs the 13-10 lead with 3:31 remaining.

Neither team could get anything going early in the fourth quarter Methodist's Shawn Dodd punting to the Greensboro 26-yard line with 6:56 to go in the game.  On second and 10, Caparaso was intercepted by senior Chris Oden at the 30-yard line to cushion the Monarchs' lead.  Miralles made the extra point and the Methodist defense locked in on the Pride.  Greensboro could not get past the Methodist 41-yard line giving the Monarchs the 20-10 win.

Teague was 4-for-16 on the day for 31 yards passing.  Freshman Reggie Scales and sophomore Corey McGuire each ran for 95 yards while Layton finished with 44.  Caparaso threw for 257 yards on 26-for-46 passing while Bacon led with 41 yards rushing.

Sophomore linebacker Troy Glover led the Monarchs' defense with 10 tackles while Oden had eight.  Brick Crowder led the Pride with 12 tackles.

The Monarchs will finish the regular season next Saturday at Shenandoah at 1 pm.
