Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist football team wrapped up the 2011 season on a high note Saturday with a 31-14 victory over Greensboro College.

After trailing 14-7 in the first quarter, the Monarchs scored 24 unanswered points during the final three quarters to go onto win 31-14.

The Methodist defense did not allow the Pride a first down on their first two possessions, pinning them deep in their own territory. A botched punt gave the Monarchs the ball back at the Greensboro 27-yard line and John Flanagan broke free down the Methodist sideline to score on the first play of the drive. Tyler Mosko's extra point gave Methodist the 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Greensboro came right back with a 73-yard drive thanks in part to two Methodist penalties tying the game at seven. The Monarchs' offense set up on their own 37-yard line, but after a fumble on the first play, the Pride took over and used three running plays to take the lead.

It looked like Methodist was going to go three and out on their ensuing drive, but quarterback Max Reber found James Bevans deep for a 45-yard completion. Reber opened the second quarter with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Vaughn Cross and Mosko's extra point tied the game at 14.

The Pride had a chance to regain the lead late in the half with a big possession back into Methodist territory. Greensboro picked up a first down at the Methodist 10-yard line, but the Monarchs held strong at the goal line. On fourth down and just one yard to go, the Pride decided to go for it, but Methodist's Keltcey Richardson got the stop at the one to keep Warren Scott out of the endzone for the game to stay deadlocked at 14 at halftime.

Richardson interecepted the Pride in their first possession of the third quarter and then Tyler Mitchell blocked the punt on the second possession setting up Richardson's 22-yard return for a touchdown. Mosko's kick put the Monarchs up 21-14 with 2:55 left in the quarter.

Mosko converted a 21-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter and Reber connected with Cross for a 38-yard touchdown pass to give Methodist the 31-14 win. The Methodist defense held Greensboro without a first down on their first two possessions of the quarter and got their final stop at the Methodist 22-yard line.

Reber finished 12-for-21 passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns to Cross. Cross led the team with seven catches for 146 yards. Flanagan had 88 yards rushing and the first touchdown of the game.

Six Methodist players were credited with a team-high four tackles including Navahri Holden, Seth Sandlin, M.J. Bryant, Jacob Hunt, Devoe Mewborn and Antjuan Jones.

Dave Eavenson finishes his first season at the helm 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference, tying for fifth in the standings. Christopher Newport finished the season undefeated in the USA South, receiving the bid to the NCAA Tournament.
