Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist football team closed out their final home game with a 24-10 win over N.C. Wesleyan College.

The Bishops had a chance to cut the lead to four early in the fourth quarter, but Methodist senior Devoe Mewborn blocked Bishops kicker Kevin Quicker's 42-yard field goal to completely shift the momentum back to the Monarchs. Methodist went on to score their second touchdown of the day with a 29-yard run by Max Reber with 4:21 to go in the game to make it a two possession game. Methodist senior Jarrett Covar earned a 30-yard fumble recovery to put the Monarchs back inside the red zone at the eight yard line. Reber finished the drive for his second touchdown of the day and Tyler Mosko's extra point put the Monarchs up 24-3 with 2:11 left to play.

N.C. Wesleyan came back with a touchdown on their next possession after capitalizing on a Methodist penalty, but it was too little too late, as the Monarchs prevailed 24-10.

The Methodist defense set the tone early, forcing N.C. Wesleyan to fumble on their first two possessions. The second, recovered by Covar, put the Monarchs' offense on their own 48-yard line. Reber picked up two first downs with passes to Jonathan Jones and Adam Thomas before Jones earned a nine-yard run to the Bishops' two-yard line. Reber tried to finish it off with the quarterback sneak, but after the ball popped out just short of the goal line, Vaughn Cross dove on it for the touchdown. Mosko converted the extra point and after the Methodist defense stopped N.C. Wesleyan on fourth and one, the Monarchs drove back down the field and Mosko cleared the field goal posts for a 43-yard kick and the 10-0 lead.

Jacob Hunt and Malcolm McCoy both had inteceptions in the second quarter to hold the Bishops scoreless through the first half. N.C. Wesleyan started the second half with a 47-yard field goal to cut the Monarchs' lead to seven, but another fumble and the blocked field goal turned the tide for Methodist.

Reber was 14-for-23 with one interception for 156 passing yards with two rushing touchdowns. Navahri Holden led the Methodist defense in tackles with 11 including two for a loss of seven yards. The Monarchs had three interceptions by Hunt, McCoy and Marlon Thomas while Covar had two fumble recoveries and Jonathan Fulmore and Andrew Davis had one apiece.

The Monarchs move to 2-7 and will close out the 2011 season at Greensboro College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
