Conley Voted MU McLean Foundation Coach of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Men's golf coach, Steve Conley has been voted the 2022 Methodist University Thomas R. and Elizabeth E. McLean Foundation Coach of the Year, as announced on Wednesday by Vice-President and Athletics Director Dave Eavenson. Conley is the only coach to become a three-time honoree (2010, 2015, 2022) in the awards 14-year history.

The award recognizes the head coach at the University who has demonstrated outstanding achievement on and off the course/field/court during the preceding academic year, as voted on by a committee of staff and faculty members.
 
In his 35 years at the helm, Conley earned his 152nd tournament win during the 2021-22 season and led the Monarchs to two post-season victories, including the USA South Athletic Conference Championship and the NCAA Division III National Championship. At the conference championship, the team won the programs 32nd title with a 25-under par 839 score. Three Monarchs finished in the top three, as Cameron Cappuzzo collected the individual medal. At the national level, the team earned the programs 13th National title to break an NCAA Division III Championship record for the most titles won by an institution. Three Monarchs finished in the top 20 following the four-day event, with Andre Chi claiming the individual title, becoming the 10th Monarch to win this accolade since 2001.
 
Along with reaching the 150 tournament wins club, coach Conley was named the NCAA Division III 2022 Dave Williams National Coach of the Year (for the eighth time), USA South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (24th time), and NCAA D-III Region Coach of the Year (18th time). He has also produced ten individual national champions, 70 different All-Americans (121 total awards) and 22 Scholar All-Americans (28 total awards).
