SANDESTIN, Fla. Methodist University men's golf, ranked No. 2, played its opening round of the 2023 GolfWeek Fall Preview on Sunday. A strong showing by the Monarchs has them tied for second with a score of five-under par 279, only trailing the number one ranked Emory University by three strokes.

OPENING ROUND NOTES
- Just like his team, Cappuzzo is tied for second in the player leaderboard following a five-under par 66. Started the day with a birdie before making double bogey and bogey on two of his next three holes. He put that behind him quickly and went out to make seven more birdies.
- Aiden Spampinato shot two-under par 69, which places him in a tie for seventh. On the front half of the course, he made two birdies to one bogey. Then on the back half he birdied three times to go along with one double bogey.
- In a tie for 25th, Cooper Hrabak posted an even-par 71 after his first round. An up and down first nine saw him make three birdies, a bogey, and a double bogey. Two bogeys in his first three holes was how he started the back nine but later he knocked down two more birdies evened out his scorecard.
- With a two-over par 73, Caleb Ryan had a good day and finds himself in a tie for 41st. He went two-over on the front half with two bogeys and then shot even-par on back half with two bogeys & two birdies.
- Rounding out Methodist starting five is Jonny Lewis, who carded a 12-over par 83 on day one. During his first trip around the course he made 10 bogeys, a triple bogey, and a birdie.
